Job Summary
The Physician Assistant (PA) provides expert clinical guidance in a specialized field and coordinates patient care quality initiatives. Responsibilities include:
- Providing service to patients in acute, short and long term care settings by assisting physicians, assessing patients, and treating injuries and ailments.
- Obtaining a thorough medical history from patients and performing examinations and assessments to determine patients' needs.
- Collaborating with healthcare professionals to analyze and interpret information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
- Formulating treatment plans and prescribing medications as legally authorized.
- Maintaining complete and detailed records of patients' health care plans.
- Consulting with or referring patients to appropriate specialists when necessary.
- Providing patients with information to promote health and prevent disease.
- Conducting research into areas of specialty to improve patient care and clinical outcomes.
- Incorporating evidence-based practice guidelines into care.
- Maintaining current knowledge of state legal regulations for advanced practice provider practices.
Qualifications
Master’s or Baccalaureate degree (Associate’s or Nursing Degree if training prior to 1994). Successful completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors.
Demonstrated current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services for at least 30 patients in the past twelve months or completion of an ARC-PA approved program in the past twelve months.
Successful completion of the national certifying examination and current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances.
